The AIVD, the dutch intelligence agency responsible for identifying and neutralizing threads to our national security released its annual report this week. It had a few key points.
Radical Muslim networks recruit less and less in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, and more and more in Western countries. The thread in the Netherlands has increased as well. There are several international organized networks active in the Netherlands as well, which they could confirm when they arrested a Pakistani in March who was involved in the preparation of a terrorist strike somewhere in Western Europe.
What they do is infiltrate and take over mosque’s. Here they pick out (young) men who are easy prey and preach the whole jihad and 72 virgins nonsense to them so they gain cannon-fodder and ‘martyrs’. There are several mosque’s known in the Netherlands for hateful preaching. Of course, we are outraged, they claim it never happened, everyone drinks a cup of thee and we forget it ever happened (and then we do it all over again, and again, and again).
They also stated that several countries, including (but not exclusively) Russia and China had been spying on the Netherlands. Spies that were caught where persuaded to return home.
We kindly ask spies to leave, but if you are a gay Muslim seeking asylum, we simply try to kick you back home. Go Netherlands!
They also noticed an increase in attacks on Dutch critical computer networks and infrastructure from abroad, some specifically to get their hands on private records.
The private records referred to is the data on everyone in the country like social security data, taxes, address and basically everything else the government has stored on its citizens. Laws within the Netherlands are pretty strict to avoid anyone (including Big Brother itself) from using the data for their own ends. Not the stuff you want a foreign power to get their hands on.
